Privacy

This statement covers the MLC Terminal desktop application. For the mlcgo.eu website and your user account, see the general privacy policy.

Last updated: 2 September 2026

In short

  • MLC Terminal never contacts us on its own. No call home at startup, no telemetry, no crash reports, no analytics.
  • The only transmission to us happens when you enter a licence key and press "Activate".
  • Your credentials, keys and host list never leave your machine.

1. Controller

The controller under the GDPR is:

Michael Lechner Schönachstrasse 27 86972 Altenstadt Germany Email: mlcgo.eu@michael-lechner.de

2. What the application sends to us

Licence activation. When you enter a licence key, the application sends that key together with the first and last name you typed to mlcgo.eu over a TLS-encrypted connection so the licence can be verified. The response carries the licence tier, an expiry date if there is one, and the registered name. It is stored locally, and every later check runs offline. If you never enter a key, this request never happens.

  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (performance of a contract).
  • Retention: Licence records are kept on our server for as long as the licence exists. See the general privacy policy.

Nothing else. There is no automatic update check: whether a version is new is decided by comparing it against the last announced version number held in your own settings. The release-notes page opens only when you click it — in your browser, subject to the ordinary server logs of mlcgo.eu.

The trial period works offline. An unregistered installation runs as a full version for 30 days. How many days remain is computed from two timestamps in your local configuration file. There is no device identifier, no registration and no server lookup involved.

3. What stays on your machine only

  • Saved hosts, groups, colour tags and settings
  • SSH passwords, if you choose to save them — AES-GCM encrypted, with a key that is itself local only
  • Private SSH keys and the Ed25519 key the application generates for you
  • Key passphrases — in memory only, never written to disk, forgotten when you quit
  • Known host fingerprints, window layouts, notes
  • Diagnostic logs (connection.log, workspace.log), which may contain host names and user names

This data lives in your user profile (on Linux ~/.config/mlcterm; on Windows and macOS in the corresponding folder of your profile). None of it is ever transmitted to us. A diagnostic log reaches us only if you send it to us yourself for a support request.

4. Connections you initiate

MLC Terminal is a tool for reaching your own servers. Every SSH and SFTP connection goes directly from your machine to the systems you configured — we are not technically involved and see neither the systems nor anything transferred over them.

The same holds in two further cases:

  • Links in terminal output. Clicking one fetches exactly that address, from whoever hosts it — not from us.
  • Monitoring and shell integration. The monitoring helper and the shell-integration snippet are written to your server, at your request, and can be removed there just as easily.

5. No advertising, no tracking, no sign-in

The application contains no advertising, no advertising identifiers, no analytics libraries and no third-party services.

And no sign-in. MLC Terminal has no login screen. There is no account inside the app, no signing in with Google or GitHub, no session, no access token. Entering a licence key transmits that key and the name you typed — nothing else. An account, if you create one at all, exists in your browser on mlcgo.eu; the application takes no part in it and never learns about it.

The sections of the general privacy policy covering advertising, cookies and third-party sign-in therefore describe the website — not the application.

6. Your rights

You have the rights of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). Since the application transmits nothing to us beyond the licence data, these rights concern chiefly your account and your licence.

Please direct requests to mlcgo.eu@michael-lechner.de. We reply within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
